If you're a licensed HAM and enjoy DXing and or Contesting, then you will certainly enjoy doing so from the comfort of 6Y5WJ. Sit back, watch the sunset and enjoy the pile-ups. 6Y5WJ is of modest
equipment, a TS590S a TS940S, and an Icom IC706. The antenna system is a 2 element
quad on a 46ft tower covering 10, 12, 15, 18 and 20M. A 160M vertical and 40M vertical
both with elevated radials, an 80M dipole, a W5GI dipole, a beverage towards EU and a
Pennant to the USA. Facilities for additional antennas are easily arranged. The verticals
were modeled and designed by W8WWV (Greg) A TL922A and a FL-2100B amplifier are on hand, although the location of 6Y5WJ and the surrounding terrain lends itself to a good take off in all directions, especially favouring East/West, so an amp is not essential. Without effort, and to his credit, Tom (G0NJZ) racked up close to 4000 QSO's in just 2 weeks holiday. ! Dxepitioners will certainly know
Tommy (VK2IR) who, on one of his many island-hopping dxepiditions sat here and racked up
a mere 3500+ QSO's in a couple days at the same time indulging in about the same amount of
Jamaican Red Stripe beer........been there done that, Ausie style. Contester Khan (AB2RF) completed his RTTY stint over several days and more recently The dynamic duo, Laki (VE3NE) and George (VE3NZ) racked up an effortless 6800 QSO's in the CQWWCW contest......without the amplifier. They're planning to be back here very soon.
More recently, the maestro himself, N2KW entering BERU for
the first time and winning his category. You're welcome to bring along your own equipment, transceiver(s), portable antennas, cables, amplifiers etc. Supply is 240/110v 60Hz, with 7.5Kw backup generator. A temporary and or special call must be obtained from Spectrum Management Authority prior to arrival.
